To walk in in greatness, accomplish big goals, and experience lasting success in our lives, We must first set the foundation of our standards.
Our standards are the “why” behind everything we do. They keep our eyes fixed on what we value most in our lives.
Standards are a part of who we are. They are part of our identity. When live by our standards - everything we do is rooted in of “when I will do this” instead of “if I will do this.”
Nobody can change your standards and we are in charge of them. They drive everything we do.

Setting standards is like mapping out the path to your desired destination.
Here are some examples from my own life.
A standard that I have set for myself and family is that we do hard things often. Whether that means running outside on a very cold day or hiking in the rain. Or doing a cold plunge at our local pool. It could mean lifting heavy weight or getting up early in the morning to go run a race together. The standard is set so there’s no question of if it’s going to happen. We set the standard, and we live our life around it.
Another standard we have in our home is “sweat before screens”. This means my kids know not to ask me if they can play a video game or watch a movie unless they have completed a workout. They know they must sweat to earn screen time. It is not a question of “if” they will sweat, but “when”. It is our standard and we live our lives around it.
One last example of a standard that we live by is that we never give up. We push through the pain of a hard work out or a long race or a hard test at school and we don’t stop until it’s done. We keep going, we keep pushing. There is no question of if we’re going to quit because our standard is that we don’t.
I believe in life if we can choose the standards that are most important to us and everything you do is because of these standards. Then we can create momentum that will make us unstoppable. And we can live the life that we dream of. Our standards are set - and our goals and our actions are because of them.
When we start thinking about life in view of our standards - it changes everything. Then we can live our best life - and walk in our highest potential.
One more example of a standard that my family and I live by is that we are generous. We are generous with each other by pulling our own weight and helping around the house often.
We are generous with others by letting them go before us in a line at the grocery store. We are also generous with our words. We choose positive words to say about ourselves, and we practice saying kind words to others, as often as we can.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when setting your own standards :
What are your core values?
What is essential in my life?
What are things that are nonnegotiable in your life?
What is common about the activities that you currently do?
What are you most passionate about?
What would flip my script from “if I do this” to “when I do this”
Take time to set your standards, because your best life deserves it. - Let’s choose the standards that will serve our greatest life, and keep us focused on exactly where we want to go.
And let’s go get after it
Because greatness is waiting.
Are You Ready? Lets go!
